Last updated: 16 July 2026
Who we are
iByte Apps Limited is the controller of personal information covered by this notice. We are a UK private limited company, company number 09504342. This policy applies to Sober Today on mobile devices and web browsers.
Information you provide
You can use some features without registering. Where registration, synchronisation or support features are available, we may receive information that you choose to provide. Recovery information may be sensitive and should only be entered if you are comfortable doing so.
- Your email address and basic account information.
- Sobriety dates, addiction trackers, goals, milestones, notes and other recovery information you enter.
- Information included when you contact us for help or make a privacy request.
- Purchase or subscription status supplied by Apple or Google. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
Information collected automatically
Depending on the device, platform and features you use, we may receive technical and usage information needed to operate, secure and improve Sober Today.
- Device type, operating system, app version and language.
- IP address, approximate region and browser type when using web services.
- App interactions, diagnostics, crash information and performance data.
- Device or installation identifiers supplied by the operating system or service providers.
How and why we use information
We process information only where we have a lawful basis. Depending on the activity, this may be necessary to provide the service you request, based on our legitimate interests in operating and improving the service, required by law, or based on your consent. Where server-side recovery information is treated as special-category data, we rely on an appropriate additional condition, such as your explicit consent.
- Provide accounts, recovery tracking, synchronisation and purchased features.
- Respond to support, security and privacy enquiries.
- Maintain reliability, prevent misuse and diagnose technical problems.
- Understand aggregated usage and improve our products.
- Meet legal, accounting and regulatory obligations.
Location information
Sober Today does not require or collect precise real-time location information for its core sobriety-tracking features. Other iByte Apps products, such as Meeting Finder, have separate location-dependent functionality and may provide their own additional notice.
When information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We may share only the information necessary with trusted providers that help us supply hosting, account, analytics, crash-reporting, communications, app-store and support services. Those providers act under contractual or legal obligations.
- When required by law, court order or a valid government request.
- To protect our rights, investigate fraud or protect the safety of users or others.
- As part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring or sale, with appropriate notice and safeguards.
- In aggregated or anonymised form that does not identify you.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including providing the service and meeting legal obligations. Account information is generally retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Automatically collected diagnostic and usage information may be retained for up to 24 months and may then be kept in aggregated form. Purchase and transaction records may be retained where required by law.
Security
We use reasonable technical, organisational and administrative safeguards designed to protect information. Access is limited to people and providers who need it to operate, support or improve the service. No electronic system can be guaranteed completely secure, so please protect your device and account credentials.
Children
Sober Today is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided information without appropriate permission, contact us and we will investigate and delete it where required. Additional protections may apply to children and young people under applicable law.
Messages and marketing
We may send service messages needed for your account, purchases, security or important app notices. We send promotional email only where permitted by law, including where you have consented or where another lawful exception applies. You can unsubscribe using the link in a marketing message or by contacting us. We do not treat use of the app as blanket consent to third-party marketing.
Your data-protection rights
Depending on your location and the circumstances, you may have the following rights. We may ask for information to verify your identity before acting on a request.
- Request access to and a copy of your personal information.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Ask us to delete information in certain circumstances.
- Ask us to restrict processing or object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
- Request data portability where applicable.
- Complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local supervisory authority.
International transfers
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where required, we use recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections.
Your choices and deletion
You can stop future collection by uninstalling the app, although information already held may remain subject to this policy and legal retention requirements. You can request account or personal-data deletion by emailing privacy@12steptoolkit.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law, normally within one month for UK GDPR requests. Some information may need to be retained where the law permits or requires it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our services, providers or legal obligations change. We will publish the revised policy here and update the date above. Where a change is significant, we may also provide an in-app notice or contact registered users where appropriate.
